Building Technology Department

Electrical Installation & electronics (EI)
Expectations:
This course provides trainees with theoretical & practical knowledge such that the trainee becomes a skilled electrician and can be able to handle electronic installations. Can handle domestic appliances, installation & maintenance of radios, TVs refrigerators etc. they can also repair/install electric wiring and related equipment in buildings and small factories.

Plumbing and Sheet Metal Work (PL)
Expectations:
Trainees taking this course which is a technical trade shall deal with The supply and disposal of water, sewage and shall do arch/Gas welding as an allied trade. Water disposal: Trainees shall learn installation of above ground and underground water disposing pipes and the installation of sanitary appliances. Arch/Gas welding: Trainees shall acquire basic Arch and gas welding skills plus some other allied trades e.g. sheet metal works. A first craft plumbing graduate can be employed in construction companies and as a plumbing/mechanical services maintenance technician The students taking this course shall acquire the skills in the following areas; Water supply Sewerage disposal Maintenance of systems that supply and dispose water Arch and gas welding Installation of sanitary appliances Basic costing of plumbing works.

Motor Vehicle Mechanics course (MVM)
Expectations:
Trainees taking this course shall deal with motor vehicle fault identification, repair, servicing and maintenance. Driving Lessons: Trainees shall learn driving /motor vehicles operation but ad an additional cost which covers driving , testing and driving permits. Motorcycle repair: Trainees shall acquire basic knowledge on motorcycle repair& maintenance.

Brick laying and concrete practice (B.C.P)
Expectation:
This course avails opportunity for trainees to learn brick/block laying and concreting work, floor finishes, wall finishes, including terrazzo, floor files and sound scaffolding. The course provides trainees with theoretical and practical dimensions as there are moulded into builders and masons. Trainees shall be introduced to the skill of interpreting work drawings (plans) as displayed from paper onto the ground, the work of fore man, and the laying of walls from concrete foundation up to wall plate levels. The successful trainees become masons able to engage fully in building and concrete practice assignments.

Carpentry and Joinery (C J)
Expectation:
This course introduces trainees to common hand tools, uses, maintenance and safety precautions. General application of wood working joints, woodwork science, timber types and handling iron mongery. At the end of the training, the student shall be able to produce furniture, do roofing and make necessary constructions for building industry.

Textile Art and Design (TEXT)
The course introduces trainees to a variety of skills that will fully be under his/her command. At the end of the course the successful trainee will be conversant with:

  • Table wearing
  • Textile Designs
  • Tie and dye boutique
  • Hand sewing
  • Machine sewing
  • Measure/cut/make basic wears

The trainee may choose to employ himself/herself or work in garment industries/shops, etc.

Catering and Hotel Management (CAT)
Successful trainees are in position to join hotel industry/or establish own restaurants and food selling shops.

Nursery Teacher Training (NUR)
This course introduces nursery trainees to the application of knowledge of modern trends and practices in early childhood development and education, teaching and looking after young children at pre-school level, ability to inculcate in pre-school children positive attitudes towards self, others, adult, environment, school work and society.

Make/use teaching/learning aids from local materials; analyze and interpret and use the learning framework. Qualified nursery trainees work as teachers in nursery schools, day care centres, kindergartens, etc

Business Studies (BUS)
This course introduces trainees who wish to major in secretarial studies and accountancy then eventually become office secretaries, receptionists, clerks and accountants in private or public institutions and business organizations. Organized offices with skilled secretary’s accountants are synonymous with the success of flowering businesses and organizations.
